This work deals with the proxemes as the representatives of the non-verbal communication code in the background terminal and information terminal of cognitive scenes in H. James's "The Wings of the Dove". Through the use of cognitive-hermeneutic analysis, the main features of background and information terminals in cognitive scenes were identified. The specific features of spacenames, which are the second most frequent type of proxeme in this work, are determined. The term "spacename" means nouns and phrases that form the literary space in the models of cognitive scenes. Two types of spacenames are defined: words or phrases denoting the location of a person and words or phrases denoting the location of an object. The study revealed spacenames in the background and in the information terminal of cognitive scenes, however, they are most often found in the background terminal. The analysis of all types of proxemes in the background terminal and the information terminal of cognitive scenes in the novel В«Wings of a DoveВ» by H. James revealed a high frequency of spacenames. According to the study, the prevailing type of spacenames is nouns and phrases denoting the location of a person.
