The article provides an overview of the directions in the study of emotiology - the linguistics of emotions, the theory of which is substantiated in the works of Professor V.I. Shakhovsky, his followers, as well as representatives of other scientific schools of Russia. The intensification of emotional manifestations in all spheres of communication and culture is indicated, which determines the increasing relevance of the scientific problem "language and emotions" in modern linguistics. The dynamics of the development of this field of knowledge demonstrates a gradual transition from the analysis of the content and structural features of lexical and grammatical emotives to the study of the communicative and pragmatic conditionality of the use of these units in texts of different stylistic, genre, thematic relevance. The culmination of the development of the linguistics of emotions is marked - emotive linguoconflictology and emotive linguoecology, which allow solving the most acute problems of modern communicative practices.
