In recent decades the anthropocentrism of science causes interest in the process of human identification in modern society. Although the theory of linguistic persona is one of the priority areas of research, the question of persona identity in the linguistic aspect has only begun to concern researchers today. A personal name is an unconditional constant, which is a repository of culture, traditions, and linguistic affiliation of its carrier. Besides gender researches of the name are secondary to onomastics. The gender phenomenon in a personal name was considered in the works of both Russian and foreign researchers only as an essential condition in the naming. The anthroponymy area is so vast that the study of gender aspects had to be limited to names. The fact that anthroponymy was chosen is due to the close ties between names and social trends. Unlike, for example, inherited surnames, given names are assigned anew by each generation and are therefore directly linked to social change. The purpose of the article is to consider various ways of expressing gender in German anthroponyms. The relevance of the study is due to the diverse description of gender in terms of linguistic means. The novelty of the study deals with solving the problem of the essential presence of a gender marker in personal names.

Key words: personal name, gender, gender markedness, identifying function, namegiving
