In the article was first comprehended the activities of I. A. Aksenov as a popularizer of Russian art English playwright Shakespeare’s age Ben Johnson, in particular, the specificity of the completed translation of the tragedy “Sejanus: His fall” and comedy “Volpone; or the Fox”, describes the circumstances surrounding the preparation and issuance of the publishing house “Academia” in 1931-1933 the two volumes of “The Dramatic works” of Ben Jonson edited by I. A. Aksenov. In the process of analysis are widely used literary-critical essays and articles of I. A. Aksenov, dedicated to the works of Ben Johnson; made in the terms and hypotheses are compared with the positions of researchers subsequent time.
