This article is devoted to the linguistic concept – the term “periphrasis”. The research is based on the analysis of the phenomenon of “periphrasis” in terms of history. The use and operation of periphrasis is closely connected with the overall evolution of the language, that is, with the development of human society. Phenomenon of periphrasis has a long history. Study of the roots and evolution of periphrasis will promote deeper understanding of this stylistic concept.
