PLANT NAMES AS FIRST NAMES IN THE SWEDISH CULTURE

This article is devoted to the use of plant names as first names in Sweden. The question of the origin of some plant names, peculiarities of appellation by this category of personal names is discussed. Materials allowed the author to determine the use of plant names as first names became modern in Sweden during the second half of the 19 century, some names are Swedish versions of names already established in other languages, and several of the more original names were given to the children of botanists or gardeners.
