The article is devoted to investigation of the main approaches to the colloquialisms studying, which focus on addition information about substandard vocabulary in the English and the Russian languages. The authors give the main attention to clarifying the place of colloquialisms in the common language stratification, as well as the semantics of colloquially lexemes. The authors attempted to implement the thematic division of colloquialisms inherent in the speech of young people.
