EXPRESSIVE AND STYLISTIC FUNCTIONS OF INTERJECTIONS AND INTERJECTIONAL COMBINATIONS (BASED ON A.P.CHEKHOV’S WORKS)

The article focuses on a study on expressive potential of interjections in A.P. Chekhov’s works. The article aims at determining and structuring specific components which are involved in the formation of a unified expressive and stylistic function of interjections with a leading dominant position. The following methods and techniques that are adequate to the aim under study were used in the research: contextual analysis, continuous sampling method, comparative method, comparative analysis of usage of interjections with a common component. The study results may be used at the lessons on section “Auxiliary and special parts of speech” in the university course of the modern Russian language as well as in special courses. The study resulted in the following conclusions: in A.P. Chekhov’s texts, interjections serve as a special stylistic means with a whole set of expressive and stylistic functions which provide volubility, dynamism, emotional intensity of narration, transmission of state of mind and mood of characters as well as one’s own view of life, possibility to decode implicit meaning of the text, to add some clearness to the speech and to fill in pauses in dialogues that are reactions of mind on interlocutor’s speech.
