The article discusses the most urgent issues surrounding the translation of literary works. It draws a clear connection between the social and juridical aspects of translation, which can be observed within such relations as “translator – author”, “translator – employer or publisher”, “translator – translators” and are regulated by the principles of Copyright. The most important juridical collisions in the framework of these relations, causing the violation of Copyright, raised in the article are the following: the execution of translation without author`s consent; the lack of coordination in the rights of the translator and the author of the original; the lack of reference to the translator`s name in the course of publication; the breach of essential terms of the author`s contract; the protection of personages; the quality of translation; and plagiarism.
