MEANS OF EXPRESSION IN THE NEWSPAPER STYLE (ON THE EXAMPLE OF CORONAVIRUS ARTICLES)

The article is devoted to the research of the means of expressiveness. Today this type of mass media has a huge influence on the mass reader. The relevance of the research is connected with modern processes in the world that affect all spheres of human activity. These processes are associated with a powerful coronavirus pandemic. The study is based on newspaper articles about covid-19 for a period from February 2020 till August 2020. Expressive means in the articles are represented by a variety of metaphors, professionalisms, and numerals. The purpose of this study is to try to discover new means of expression in the newspaper style. A huge amount of newspaper material allowed identifying a feature that is not typical for numerals - expressiveness, as well as discovering and classifying new metaphors and tracing the ways of professional vocabulary formation. The expressive means defined in the course of the work have a communicative focus on the addressee and create emotional and anxious tension that appears in the form of discomfort, fear, and panic. Information in the newspapers affects the mood of the population and is reflected in the newspaper discourse in the form of expressive vocabulary.
