The article is written within the cognitive contrastive trend in poetics and deals with the problem of comparative analysis of objectivation means of the feature concept “life” in English and Russian literatures. The concept is considered to be a philosophical-aesthetic phenomenon of the author’s mind that contains universal features and emotional feelings of the author. The logical concept reconstruction is done by the analysis of its cognitive-propositional structure. In short stories by A. Chekhov and James Joyce the concept content is represented by the following elements: subject, predicate, attributive characteristics of life, life time-frame, purpose of life. The latter content component of the concept is dominant. The research reveals there are integral features in the concept content and specific ones that highlight the author’s worldview.

Key words: когнитивная контрастивная поэтика, индивидуально-авторская картина мира, художественный концепт, структура концепта, cognitive contrastive poetics, personal worldview, feature concept, content of the concept
