ENGLISH-LANGUAGE PODCASTS AS AUTHENTIC TEXTS IN THE DISCOURSE OF THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY

The article represents the rationale for the podcast as an authentic text. Addressing the issue of the nature and role of podcasts in the representation of relevant knowledge by native speakers through information and communication technologies determined the purpose of the article: to determine the importance of English-speaking podcasts at a professional level when immersing into authentic world of the hospitality industry. The discursive description of the terms �podcasting’ and �podcast’, the history of formation of these concepts, their lexicographic and practice-oriented representation are based on the philosophical methodology of activity, in particular, a person’s activities as the creator and user of a podcast. The methods of component analysis and component synthesis contributed to a deep and consistent study of lexicographic definitions of the term �podcast’ and its derivatives. Also, the use of speech-interpretation mechanisms for creating the authentic text made it possible to consider podcasts as authentic materials, where records with marketing experts retain their original integrity, vocabulary and grammar. The method of contextual analysis made it possible to figure out linguistic features of the composition of the marketing nominations of the hospitality industry and to reveal particular definitions and own interpretations of new concepts in professional speech. The linguistic, cognitive, sociocultural significance of English-speaking podcasts as authentic texts intensifies students’ enhancing knowledge in the professional sphere of a foreign language.
