This article is devoted to the problems of Yoruba language functioning on the territory of Africa. In the course of the work the authors systematize the theoretical base of the problem and identify the key linguistic features of the Yoruba language on the material of African linguists’ dictionaries. Special attention is paid to the influence of globalization on the linguistic and cultural state of the modern Yoruba language at the phonetic, syntactic, morphological levels. Due to the dominant influence of the English language, the lexical composition of Yoruba is more exposed to the influence of globalization, which results in the extinction of many lexical units.
