In this article we scrutinize the origin of the concept "form of behavior" and prove the validity of its application in the literary interpretation of the Dostoevsky`s characters` behavior. In the course of the study, we were able to analyze the behavioral structure of the improvisational personality type and identify a new type of adventurous hero. We also managed to prove that the form of behavior may not result from the personal needs of the character, but be chosen consciously as a role-mask. In this case, the character uses the whole arsenal of means of manifesting behavior, namely: gestures, facial expressions, intonation. Bright examples are Smerdyakov's "servility", Fyodor Karamazov's "buffoonery", Nastasya Filippovna Barashkova's "frivolity" and "foolishness", Aglaya Epanchina's "arrogance". The analysis of the forms of behavior made it possible to reveal the behavioral patterns of the characters, to understand the causes of certain actions that are not directly motivated in the text of the work. The formal approach allows a deep understanding of the poetics of F.M. Dostoevsky.
