The article analyzes the main types of contexts of the lyrics book, titled “The Sun in the Coffin”, by a famous Russian and Soviet poet Ryrik Ivnev, from the point of view of the theory of text and context. Historical, biographic, literary and “detached” context are considered in detail. The author makes a conclusion that various types of Ryurik Ivnev’s contexts are either spontaneously or - sometimes - intentionally intended to create the literary image of the author that is identifiable with an autobiographic hero. The exaggerated “I” reflected in the text is the center of gravitation of all themes and motives of the book and becomes the focus of Ryurik Ibvnev’s worldview. All the contexts are intricately intertwined and give birth to the quality of style that distinguishes palpably “The Sun in the Coffin” against the background of the Russian poetry of 1920s and can be defined as surrealism
